4 Reasons to Get Excited About CIPHI AEC New Brunswick

Hedgerow Software can’t wait to visit New Brunswick for the CIPHI Annual Education Conference in beautiful Saint John. We had a wonderful time with our agency clients and making new environmental health friends last year at CIPHI National and Ontario in Durham. Hedgerow will once again be represented onsite by CEO Neil Grinwis and yours truly. Without further ado, here are four reasons we are excited to attend, exhibit and sponsor at CIPHI AEC Saint John in New Brunswick.

being down by the bay

What an absolutely majestic setting in Saint John for a conference. The Bay of Fundy is unlike any other place in the world, and we’re planning to take in all the sights it has to offer. Given the unique location, we hope to see interesting CIPHI sessions related to water and coastline environmental health programs, so we can do our part to better protect our oceanic resources and beach communities.

captivating keynotes

What an eclectic mix of keynote speakers we’ll see in New Brunswick. The Kilted Chef, Alain Bossé, will surely entertain us and make us wish it was time for dinner. Food industry insider Peter Chapman will help us learn about the dynamics between food producers, processors, citizens, and hopefully, how environmental health agencies can increase their influence within the food ecosystem. Lastly, Dave Smith will help us broaden our views on indigenous culture and equality through his unique background, experiences, and learnings in regenerative ecology.

striving for equality

Speaking of equality, last year I wrote about the progress we are making within environmental health equality. While there are no quick and easy long term solutions, it’s been inspiring to see efforts by agencies, politicians, nonprofits and celebrities advance such a necessary cause. CIPHI’s interactive workshop on implementing integrated, equity-driven responses in environmental public health will be another step in the right direction. As will the Tuesday afternoon session on EPH roles in supporting indigenous-led dialogue, partnerships, and system shifts.

building resilience

Climate change continues to challenge us all and is often the elephant in the room for environmental health agencies. I’m looking forward to building more resilience in the session “Food Safety on the Climate Crisis Menu: Serving up Resilience during Environmental Emergencies.” Skills like resilience are critical for all organizations that battle climate change. As new leaders, inspectors, scientists, and others join the environmental health field, resilience will help our EH professionals better serve our communities.

What are you most excited about? Leave a comment or send me a direct message. Also, make sure to stop by the exhibit hall to say hello to the Hedgerow team. We’ll see you in Saint John!
